And So It Begins . . .
/The plan for quite some time has been to outfit Tammy's vehicle (2008 Chevy Silverado) in a similar fashion to Bill's vehicle (2009 Chevy Tahoe). As I say, that has been the plan, but for the last three years the vehicle modification projects have focused on outfitting the Tahoe. It makes sense, in that the Tahoe is our vehicle of choice for our vacation travels. There is usually a flurry of activity about a month before we leave on a trip with the latest new additions which to date have included:
- a secondary electrical system powered by
- two additional alternators with
- a 600 amp electrical distribution system
- a 5000 watt inverter and
- a second battery
- a custom wound 240 volt step-up transformer
- an electronic fast idle module
- an electronic keyless auto engine start module (coming soon)
- a front bumper mounted hot-box
- interior mounted 25' electric cord reel
- interior mounted amber side lights and amber traffic director
- interior mounted right, left, and rear flood lights
- and did I mention the electronic hot water kettle and
- microwave
I was going to be attending a photography workshop on a solo trip and taking the so far un-improved Silverado. My one requirement for the trip was that I have locking storage for my camera gear and other assorted electronic gadgets. As luck would have it, I happened to have a vertical stacked locking two drawer system from Adventure Trailer sitting in my living room just waiting to be installed.
We had already removed the rear bench seat in the truck and built the platform for the drawer system to sit on in anticipation of the project, but sadly the project had stalled. I must say there is nothing like a deadline for motivation. A couple of weeks before my departure the work began again in ernest and the result is more than satisfactory. I'm very pleased with the results.
During the project we needed to made an adjustment to one of the drawer slides for smoother operation. Fortunately, it was the upper drawer that need adjusting and only required removing the top to get at the slide mechanism. After my road trip, which included several miles of dirt roads, the slide is in need of adjustment again. I'm sure a more ruggedized fix will soon be applied.
